 Allegheny Mountains WV
Much of the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia is in the Allegheny Mountains. These mountains also include the Dolly Sods Wilderness, Laurel Fork Wilderness, and Cranberry Wilderness. The Alleghenies of West Virginia are also famous for their forests of Red Spruce, Balsam Fir, and Mountain Ash, trees typically found much further north.

The Allegheny Plateau is a large, dissected plateau area in Northern West Virginia extending southward into southwestern West Virginia.
 Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area
Metropolitan area consisting of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Maryland, Northern Virginia, Central Maryland, and two counties in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
 Cumberland Plateau  -  extension of the Allegheny Plateau
Ecologically, it is a part of the Appalachian mixed mesophytic forests ecoregion.

Narrow stretch of territory in the northeast of the state, bordering Maryland and Virginia. Enjoy the New River Gorge Bridge against the beautiful fall colors of the New River Gorge. Pedestrian traffic is not allowed on the surface of the New River Gorge Bridge at any time - except on Bridge Day, the third Saturday in October.
