Green Mountains - The Green Mountains of Southern Vermont
The Green Mountains are a mountain range in the state of Vermont. The range extends approximately 250
miles. The most notable mountains in the range include: Mount Mansfield [ 4395 feet, the highest point in
Vermont ], Killington Peak [4235 feet ], Mount Ellen [ 4083 feet ], Camel's Hump [ 4083 feet ], Mount Cleveland [
3500 feet ], Mount Roosevelt [ 3580 feet ], Mount Wilson [ 3756 feet ], Glastenbury Mountain [ 3748 feet ]. See Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forests.
All of the major peaks are traversed by the Long Trail, a wilderness hiking trail that runs from the southern to
northern borders of the state and joins the Appalachian Trail for roughly 1/3 of its length.

Smugglers' Notch Area Chamber of Commerce in Beautiful Northern Vermont
The Smugglers' Notch Area of Vermont is a four-season vacation destination on what some locals refer to as
'the quiet side of the Mountain'. Outstanding natural beauty, great recreational opportunities, and unspoiled
Vermont villages combine with modern shopping and services, lodging, and restaurants in this area of the
Lamoille River Valley to provide visitors a unique experience. Smugglers' Notch is a spectacular pass at the
foot of Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak, and the road through the Notch, Route 108, is one of two
officially designated scenic highways in the state. During the winter months a few miles of Route 108 are
closed at the summit, and the Notch becomes a haven for snowshoeing, skiing, and ice climbing. With two
major ski resorts adjacent to the Notch, it remains the focal point of activity throughout the year. At
Jeffersonville, Route 108 and the cold, clear Brewster River winding alongside it meet with Route 15, the
area's main east-west highway, and with the larger Lamoille River. All this makes the area both easily accessible and rich in places to hike, canoe, fish, bike, and relax.

The City of Newport, located in the upper northeast area of Vermont, is a four season's resort area. It is
bordered to the north by the Canadian Border and is the southern port of Lake Memphremagog. Lake
Memphremagog, which is over 30 miles long, offers excellent fishing and hunting opportunities. From late
spring to early fall the lake is utilized by boaters, swimmers, jet skis and wind surfers. There is also a Fish
and Wildlife Refuge, along the South Bay of Newport, which is a haven to view hundreds of species of native birds and animals.
There is plenty to do all year round. You can ski at Jay Peak [ 20-25 minutes ], snowmobile on VAST trails, sail
or motorboat to Canada for dinner. Enjoy concerts at the Gateway Center Building on the Waterfront in the summer. Stroll through the parks and enjoy beautiful sunsets over the lake.
