Brezje
Dovje-Mojstrana - Juilan Alps
Mojstrana (641 m) lies at the meeting point of Triglavska Bistrica with the Sava river, in the immediate vicinity of the Triglav National Park.
From Mojstrana, three valleys lead into the very heart of the Julian Alps. Krma valley represents the easiest
but also the longest way to Mt. Triglav. Surrounded with georgeous mountains, it is popular for hikes and
walks during the whole year (in winter time it is great for ski-touring). Kot valley is remarkable for its solitude
and quietness. Overshadowed by the pinnacled north face of Rjavina, it represents the shortest way to the top of our highest mountain (Triglav).
And finally, Vrata valley, the most impressive from the three. It surprises one with its tremendous Triglav
North Face, that shuts off the end of the valley like an enormous natural curtain. But the attractions don't end
here, there are some other points, worth seeing. Perienik waterfall, Galerije and Educational Natural Path
along Bistrica river and through the woods are just some of them... Vrtaška planina, rich for its fauna and
flora is one of the most precious parts of the Triglav National Park. Yet, if we go further on, towards Škrlatica,
the splendid mountain range of Martuljkova skupina (starting with the mighty Kukova Špica) shows us the real
beauty is our mountains. The end of Vrata valley is crosswise closed with Stenar, a baroque formed peak, which rises up to 1500 m into the sky, right behind Aljažev dom (hut). Dovje
(703 m) is a village with a rich history and rural tradition. One of the sunniest villages in Slovenija is located under the deep slopes of Karavanke.
Godz Martuljek - once called Rute - Kransjka Gora Valley A small, elongated tourist resort situated in the outstanding beauty of the Alpine environment. The village has
given its name to one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the Julian Alps - the Martuljek mountain range
with Spik, its highest peak at 2472 metres. The murmur of the countless waterfalls rushing down the Martuljek mountain range provides an irresistible attraction to both romantics at heart and artists.
Kranjska Gora
The municipality of Kranjska Gora is situated in the area of the Zgornjesavska valley, sometimes spelt
Gornjesavska dolina, and also known as Dolina, this is without doubt one of the most picturesque Alpine valleys
Logarska Dolina - portal site Sightseeing, accommodations etc.
Maribor - Maribor Tourist Board
Discovering Pohorje's primeval forest and pure waters offers an unforgettable experience for ramblers as
well as lovers of horse riding and cycling. You can also try parachuting, hang gliding, ballooning and
tobogganing on grass in the Pohorje Adrenalin Park, where overcoming obstacles is immense entertainment
for both young and old alike. Particularly pleasant atmospheres are animated during special events; among the
most resounding is certainly the already traditional Golden Fox, a competition for the World Cup in skiing for women.
Maribor Ski Centre The Maribor Ski Centre is the biggest ski centre in Slovenia. It has 250 ha of ski-field, 60 km of ski-courses, 27
km of cross-country-courses and a very good equipped snow stadium, where the competitions for The Golden Fox Trophy are held every year.
Murska Sobota - largest city in Pomurje - City of Murska Sobota
Boasts the Renaissance Sobota Castle in the shelter of two-century-old oak trees. The castle houses the
Regional Museum. Nearby Rakičan Manor offers a wine cellar and an equestrian center. Among the sacral
monuments of Pomurje, the church in Bogojina restored by the architect Jože Plečnik and the Romanesque
rotunda in nearby Selo, which belongs among the oldest buildings in Slovenia, are a special treat.
Radovljica -
Postonja Cave The mysterious Postojna cave world is the part of Slovenia which has been carved, shaped and created by
water; deep within these world-famous caves hide the most precious beauty created through millions of years, drop by drop, year after year...
The 20-kilometre-long underworld system is a miracle in itself, but one becomes truly astounded at the look of
the mysterious "human fish" (Proteus Anguinus), wondering at the strange form of life preserved in the underground kingdom. Another mystery of the underground.

Cuisine - Slovenian Cooking
Slovenian cuisine is composed of various regional and local cuisines that slowly developed on the basis of
the natural assets of the area and the influences of neighbouring culinary traditions: Mediterranean, Alpine,
and Pannonian. The western influence brought more pasta and vegetables into Slovenian cooking. The
influence of Viennese cuisine, first known to Slovenian townsfolk and subsequently spread to rural kitchens, brought breaded and pastry items, while the Pannonian influence added spicier flavours.
Slovenian Cooking by Andrej A. Fritz
64 pages, paperback; Second edition: 2003; ISBN 96190888X The booklet details 140 old and not so old national dishes, which cherish a rich tradition in Slovenia.
Throughout the centuries some of them have managed to preserve themselves to this day. A different ground
structure and varying climate in some areas as well as economic and cultural factors have contributed their
part in creating 40 culinary regions. These are characterized by different eating habits and typical dishes.
History of Slovenia
Independence: 25 June 1991 (from Yugoslavia)
Slovenia's History
It is believed that the Slavic ancestors of the present-day Slovenians settled in the area in the 6th century. In
the 7th century the Slavic Duchy of Carantania, the first Slovenian and first stable Slavic state, was formed.
In 745, Karantania lost its independence and became to all intents and purposes a part of the Frankish empire. Many Slavs gradually became converted to Christianity.
Around 1000, the Freising manuscripts were written, representing the first written document in Slovenian and
the first ever Slavic dialect written in Latin script. During the 14th century, most of Slovenia's regions passed into ownership by the Habsburgs whose lands .... See for more Wikipedia
Slovenia and the Slovenes
- by Cathie Carmichael, James Gow One of Europe's smallest countries, with a population of less than 2 million, Slovenia has an ancient and
distinct national culture. It emerged in 1991 after fighting a brief war of independence to leave behind the
remnants of Tito's Yugoslavia. Traces of the Slovene language are found in documents of the ninth century, a
system of peasant democracy is recorded in medieval times, and a Slovene Bible appeared as early as 1557.
This volume provides a comprehensive survey of Slovenia and its people, including details of political, economic, military and cultural life.
Paperback 245 pages (October 18, 2000); Publisher: C. Hurst & Co
Music, Culture & Entertainment
The music of Slovenia [ l 'domaca zabavna glasba' ] is closely related to German, Austrian and Istrian because
of its common history and Alpine and littoral culture. In the minds of many foreigners, Slovenian folk music
means a form of polka that is still popular today, especially among expatriates and their descendants in the area of Cleveland, Ohio.
The ensemble Bratov Avsenik is one of the example. They are still popular in Slovenia.
