Albania, The Bradt Travel Guide - By Gillian Gloyer (Author)
Albania is perhaps the last hidden corner of eastern Europe, newly opening its frontiers to travelers after
decades of tyranny and instability. Written by an insider and Albania enthusiast, the Bradt guide to Albania
takes a fresh look at how and where to explore the heritage of a country influenced by the Greeks, Romans,
Italians, and Turks--who have all left their mark on the landscape and culture. Albania boasts a breathtaking
natural beauty, splendid and empty beaches, excellent local wines, a Mediterranean climate, and a tradition of
hospitality, making it a potentially prime holiday destination, easily accessible by air, ferry via the Greek islands and Italy, or even by road via mainland Greece, Montenegro, or Kosovo.
Paperback: 280 pages; Publisher: Bradt Travel Guides; 2.00 edition (August 1, 2006); Language: English; ISBN-13: 978-1841621494

surrounding agricultural region in which tobacco, grapes, and fruits are grown. The town of Berat,
overshadowed to the east by mount Tomorr (2400m), is built on an ancient Illyrian dwelling site, which goes
back to the sixth century B.C. Its innumerable monuments and beautiful and characteristic architecture of its houses have proclaimed Berat, a museum town.
Durres
One of Albania's oldest cities, the country's main sea port, the second largest industrial center after Tirana. Durres lies on a small peninsula on the coast of the Adriatic sea.
The legend says that it was founded by Epidamnos, the Illyrian King of the area, who called it by his own name and named the port area after his grandson - Dyrrah

fortress ).
Saranda
Saranda is situated in an open sea gulf, opposite the island of Corfu. The sea panorama, the variety of flora,
