SABA > CARIBBEAN > INDEX

Saba is a five square mile island in the northeastern Caribbean, 28 miles south of St. Maarten. Together with Statia, these three islands form the Windward Islands of the Dutch Caribbean which is part of the Dutch kingdom.

Known as the "Unspoiled Queen," Saba earns this reputation from her rich, tropical, natural, beauty. At 2,864 feet above sea level, a dense rain forest often peeks out from a light, cool cloud of moisture.

Cool trade winds keep the mosquitoes away while the tropical flowers dazzle your senses and you begin to rediscover your peace of mind.

Saba is ideal for the traveler looking for a secluded haven, in peaceful and friendly surroundings. Rising steeply from the azure sea, the tiny island in the Caribbean is a magical experience far away from the cares and worries of today's hurried world.
Four small villages are as quaint and charming as the gentle, friendly manner of the Saban people, descended from hardy 17th century pioneers. Visitors feel they have stepped back in history, yet many modern luxuries are here to be enjoyed. Saba is a monument to nature's best above and below the ocean's surface. The famous Saba Marine Park is second to none.

Furthermore, Saba is a magical place for scuba diving, hiking, admiring the nature or honeymooning!

Each island is so different it is impossible to generalise about this area, but there is something to suit every taste. From the French islands expect French food, chic boutiques and relaxed diving. The Dutch islands got lucky when they handed out the diving - Saba acknowledged as a world-class dive destination, Statia a well kept secret, and St. Maarten a mecca for vacationers. The independent (erstwhile British) islands have stunning bone white beaches interspersed with fascinating historical sites and many wreck dives.
