Willemstad - Capital City of Curacao and territorial capital of the Dutch Antilles
The city consists of two sections: Punda and Otrabanda. Punda was established in 1634, when Dutch
captured the island from Spain. The original name of Punda originally was de punt in Dutch. Otrabanda, which
was founded in 1707, is the newer section of the city and is considered to be the cultural center of
Willemstad. Its name originated from the Spanish otra banda, which means "the other side." Punda and Otrabanda are connected by a long pontoon bridge.
Curacao Sea Aquarium
During the feeding shows you can touch and learn about the animals. For some real fun you can snorkel or
scuba dive and hand feed stingrays, sea turtles, sharks and many other colorful tropical fish. For those who
do not want to get wet, they can watch the fun of the divers whilst seated in the Underwater Observatory Boat. After all that excitement you can relax in the coolness of our museum and theater.
Dolphin Academy
Variety of programs in which you can interact with the dolphins. Toucing, caressing, diving, swimming and kissing, it's all possible. You can train a dolphin yourself.
Cuisine - Curacao Recipes
Because of its poor soil and scant rain Curaçao was never a major agricultural centre. Only a handful of food
crops were grown locally, forming the basis of a somewhat monotonous diet for the majority of the people. Small plantations produced grains like sorghum and corn; robust vegetables such as okra, pumpkin,
cucumbers, Swiss chard, and peppers; and fruits like plantains, watermelon, papaya and mango. Goat, iguana, chicken, rabbit, pork and salted beef were the most common meats.
The local Curacao food "Kuminda Krioyo" is heavy and hearty. Main dishes such as fried fish, stewed goat, chicken and beef are served with peas and rice, potatoes or funchi (boiled cornmeal).

History of Curacao
First discovered by the Spaniards, the island was occupied by the Dutch in 1634. The original inhabitants
were Arawak indians, which were decimated after the Spanish occupation. After the island became a territory of the Netherlands, slaves were brought from Africa. The Dutch abolished slavery in 1863.

Curaçao Museum
The Curaçao Museum is located in the western part of Otrobanda in an historic building dating from 1853. A
permanent collection of antique period furniture, including some exquisite mahogany pieces from the 18th and 19th centuries, antique maps of Curaçao and the Caribbean, and Indian art are also on display.
Fort Church Museum
This museum is located at the back of the historic Fort Church (1769) at Fort Amsterdam (1635), near the
Punda waterfront. It contains a small but elegant collection of artifacts from the church's Dutch Protestant
congregation, active since 1635, including antique silver chalices and a mahogany baptismal font. History buffs will also enjoy the impressive collection of old maps of the island
