History of Aruba

 Aruba's History - Wikipedia
Aruba's first inhabitants were the Caquetios Indians from the Arawak tribe. Fragments of the earliest known Indian settlements date back to about 1000 A.D, as do the ancient painted symbols still visible on limestone caves found at Fontein, Ayo and elsewhere. Pottery remnants can still be seen at the Museum of Archaeology...

Dia Di San Juan (St. John's Day)
The annual festival celebrated on the feast of San Juan (St. John the Baptist) arrived in Aruba via Mexico, Central America and Venezuela. The festival has been a part of the Aruban culture, since 1862. The celebration of San Juan (or Saint John the Baptist day) began as a harvest festival, celebrated by the natives of the island, to show their gratitude to the numerous gods for a rich harvest and to ask them to bestow their blessings for the following year.
