The is quite picturesque, and has been termed the "Hills and Harbors" area by the Province's tourist authority.
It is characterized by rolling countryside, peaceful rivers, picturesque beaches and vibrant colors: the pristine
white of winter snow, the brilliant violet of the lupins that line the roadways in spring, the green of the summer
grass and fields, and the kaleidoscope of hues in the autumn leaves. The back roads maintain the same color
throughout the year - the famous rich red which is characteristic of the Island. Much of the land is used for
agricultural purposes, though there is a substantial amount of woodland, allowing for hiking, camping and bird- watching.

Prince Edward Island - Wikipedia
The island is also referred to as Abegweit, this name being derived from the Mi'kmaq word for Prince Edward Island, Epekwit'k, meaning "cradled (or cradle) on the waves."
As a French colony comprising part of Acadia, the island was called Île Saint-Jean. Acadians on the island,
many having already fled a British-ordered expulsion in the mainland British colony of Nova Scotia in 1755,
were subsequently deported in 1758 when the British seized Île Saint-Jean during the Seven Years' War.

Elmer Harris
The Fortune peninsula has been the scene of many historic events, from the early 18th-century Acadians
who built dykes to reclaim the flood plain to tenant farmers who rebelled against their absentee landlords a
century later. In the 1920s the spian colony thrived in the area, and stories of romance and intrigue of this period abound. The renowned American playwright Elmer Harris [ see Wikipedia ] based his dramatic work
Johnny Belinda on events in this community. Today, Harris' original home has been restored and houses an elegant inn and restaurant. See also Elmer Blaney Harris: 1878-1966
